KC, Wolmer’s to contest TT final
MANY-TIME defending champions Kingston College (KC) and Wolmer’s Boys will contest the final of the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Table Tennis Under-19 competition set for March 19 at the Jamaica College Auditorium.
KC topped their group with maximum 12 points, two ahead of Wolmer’s Boys on 10 points, with Jamaica College (JC) on seven, and Hillel with four points.
In the Under-16 division, KC are also through to the semi-final and will play alongside Hillel and JC in one group, with St Jago, Campion College and Gaynstead High in the other semi-final group.
In Under-16 boys Group Three, Hillel ended with 12 points, earned from a perfect win record, ahead of Campion on 10 points, for both teams to advance, followed by Wolmer’s Boys on eight points and newcomers Bridgeport ended with six points.
Round-robin play will take place in each group and the group winners will contest the final, while the second place finishers in the two groups will play-off for third-place trophies.
In play completed earlier, Group One winners were defending champions St Jago, with JC second, while in Group Two, the winners were KC and Gaynstead second.
Meanwhile, the girls Under-19 semi-finalists were decided earlier this week and will see defending champions Ardenne High facing Meadowbrook High in one semi-final. Newcomers St Andrew High will take on Wolmer’s Girls in the other.
A new Under-16 girls champion will be crowned this year as defending champions Wolmer’s Girls did not make it to the semis. Ardenne will tackle Campion College in one semi-final and last year’s beaten finalists Immaculate High take on St Catherine High in the other.
The semi-finals and finals of these urban play-offs will take place on Tuesday, March 19 at the Jamaica College Auditorium, starting at 8:30 am.
