Artists Talk at the National Gallery
The National Biennial, the art exposé haning at The National Gallery of Jamaica (NGJ) in downtown kingston continues to generate interest.
As a result, the NGJ is hosting a special opening tomorrow to facilitate a final walking tour with four of the participating artists.
The gallery notes that this will be the last opportunity to see the National Biennial, which was scheduled to close on March 9, but has been held over by popular demand.
The artists giving the tour are: Jasmine Thomas – Girvan, winner of the Aaron Matalon Award; Storm Saulter; Duane Allen and Hope Brooks.
These artists will lead the visitors through the exhibition giving insights into their work and the work of the other artists, and stimulating dialogue around the recent developments in Jamaican art.
Though the Gallery is normally closed to the public on Mondays, it will be open for viewing from 10:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., with the artist tours commencing at 11:00 a.m.
The permanent exhibitions, which feature prime examples of Jamaican art from the Pre-Columbian period to the 20th century, will also be open for viewing.
Students are encouraged to attend, as well as persons living and working in the Gallery’s downtown neighbourhood.
