Malcolm cops Maureen Rankine Invitational tennis title
MACOY Malcolm won last weekend’s latest staging of the Maureen Rankine Invitational tennis tournament held at Sea Gardens Beach Resort in Montego Bay.
Malcolm, the number three –ranked Jamaican male singles tennis player, easily beat Atton Burrell 6-0, 6-3 in straight sets to collect the $20,000 winner’s purse and the trophy, while Burrell took home $15,000.
In one of the highlights of the weekend, female player Ffion Fletcher beat Noel Nickle to take the amateur singles title.
In the Pro-Am Doubles, Paul Campbell and Errol Chattoo beat Marie Imbault and Joshua Bailey in straight sets 6-0, 6-4.
The Open doubles went to O’Shane Wright and Romareo Jarrett, who beat Mario Malcolm and Horatio Ludford.
In the juniors section, Krystian Dear beat Donte Welsh for the Boys’ singles, Sherita Haughton beat Shaeda Nickle for the girls singles, while in the Future Stars section Abigail Perue was first followed by Abishek Moorgami, Rin Gyles and Adam Cooper.
