Sporting return to winning ways in style
SPORTING Central Academy hammered Cavaliers 4-0 at the Edward Seaga Stadium on Sunday to break a three-match losing streak in the Red Stripe Premier League.
Corey Hylton led the scoring with a double strike in the 37th and 63rd minutes, while Jamoly Powell opened the account with a goal in the first minute. Sporting Central’s fourth came from an own goal by Cavalier defender Anthony Stitchwell in the 25th minute.
It was the first win for the Clarendon-based Sporting Central after a spell of defeats, a result that delighted coach Lenworth Hyde.
“It was a pleasing performance by the team… the players decided that they had lost three games on the trot and that they were not going to lose this one. (They) packed a lot of intensity in their play and produced four goals,” said the former Jamaica standout.
A disappointed-looking Cavalier coach, David Lalor, rued the outcome. “It was not a good result for us. I believe that this was one of our worst performances. We have a lot of things to fit in this team right now, and one is scoring goals,” he lamented.
