Christian stuns TG with late equaliser
MAY PEN, Clarendon — Jermaine Christian rescued a precious point for 10-man Humble Lion with a last-gasp equaliser against Tivoli Gardens in their Red Stripe Premier League game at Effortville on Sunday.
The visitors seemed to have sealed what would have been a deserved victory following Ranike Anderson’s 74th-minute tap-in, but a host of missed chances would later come back to haunt them in time added.
Christian, who was largely ineffective for most of the game, turned up at the far post to supply a moment of magic with a drilled left-footed shot past a livid Edsel Scott in goal for Tivoli.
Earlier, Humble Lion full-back Fabian Pascoe was sent off for two bookable offences, which was, quite frankly, the only highlight of a drab first half.
The result means both teams moved further away from the relegation zone following Highgate United’s 3-2 defeat to league leaders Harbour View at Drax Hall in St Ann.
The west Kingston side remain in eighth place on 33 points — eight ahead of 11th place Highgate.
Assistant coach Alvin Shaw was, however, disappointed with the result. “I think we controlled most of the game, so it’s disappointing that we gave up an equaliser in time added,” he said.
For Humble Lion, who were joined on 32 points by fellow Clarendon team Sporting Central Academy, the stalemate means they are now seven points clear of the drop zone.
“I think we played in patches, but we kept on encouraging the players because it was just one of those games. Thankfully we got a point,” assistant coach Linval Wilson said.
