MoBay U-21s look to extend lead in Sandals/ATL League
TUCKER, St James — Montego Bay United Under-21 could increase their lead in Zone B of the St James Football Association Sandals/ATL Senior League this afternoon when they take on winless Rosemount Gardens at Wespow Park in Tucker in one of three games.
MBU Under-21 have won three of their four games played so far to lead with 10 points, nine points more than Rosemount that have just one point from three games.
At Sam Sharpe Teachers’ College, Reggae Youths will seek to snap out of their three-game winless run when they take on last-placed Revelations in another Zone B game.
Since winning their opening game, Reggae Youths, last season’s Division One champions and who showed a lot of promise in the preseason, have drawn two and lost one and dropped into the bottom half of the zone.
Against Revelations they should be able to get back into a winning mode and get within striking distance of the leaders.
Violet Kickers, who were beaten for the first time this season on Friday night by going down 2-1 to North Gully Ambassadors, will face Fogo United at the UDC field.
Despite showing a lot of improvements from their draw against Melbourne United in their previous game, Kickers lacked the finishing and went down 2-0 to a penalty kick from Hector Wright in the 66th minute and a brilliant goal from Asornie Binger in the 72nd minute that gave goalkeeper Warren Barrett no chance to try to save.
The play started near the half-line and a quick three-man combination sent Binger clear with only Barrett to beat and slotted home inside the near left post.
Gavin Wright, who pulled one back for Kickers in the 90th minute, will seek to lead the team to their second win today against a Fogo team that has conceded six goals so far in four games and are just a point ahead of Kickers, having played one game more.
Also on Friday, Melbourne United had their undefeated run for last season broken when they went down 2-0 to neighbours Salt Spring United at Jarrett Park.
Melbourne had drawn their previous three games this season after winning three and drawing seven games last season, and without Norman Foster to stabilise their midfield, allowed Salt Spring to run all over them.
Javian Bailey gave Salt Spring the lead after 27 minutes, while Anthony Brown added a second in the 71st minute as Salt Spring improved to seven points and second place in Zone A.
