Lee tops in exciting JGA Flights Classic
WILLIAM ‘Tommy’ Lee shot rounds of 80 and 76 to finish the JGA Flights Classic as the overall champion, as the event ended on a high note on Sunday at the Caymanas Golf & Country Club.
The event was one with a difference, in that regular men and senior men competed in handicap flights 0-6, 7-11, 12-17 and 18+. Super Seniors and women participated with wider handicap categories, and junior golfers according to their ages.
Lee had a total of seven birdies over the two days, which ushered him in as the winner of the championship flight and first Jamaica Golf Association tournament of 2013. National representative Keith Stein finished second in the 0-6 category with scores of 76 and 81, and Lindy Bartley finished in third position with 78 and 79.
Patrick Gordon had rounds of 81 and 75, which topped the 7-11 flight. Peter Chin copped second place with 166 and Kevin Murphy was third with 170, beating three other competitors with the same score.
In the 12-17 handicap band, Ian Moore took the top spot with 173, thanks to a last day score of 86. Oliver McIntosh was second with 173, and Orville Marshall was third with 178.
Fred Sutherland emerged the winner of the 0-9 super senior flight with 161. Maurice Foster captured the 10-18 flight with 161.
Rochell Price took the first flight (0-8) in the ladies category. Sherisse Walker finished the event with the second flight title (9-16), and Celsa Nuno won the third category (17+).
Michele Gabay and Paul Season were the one day winners.
The junior golfers were out in full force and came from as far as Sandals, Ocho Rios and Cinnamon Hill, Montego Bay. Oshae Haye (17 & Under), Romaine Evans (15 & Under), Sebert Walker, Jr (13 & Under) and Jack Stein (11 & Under) swept first place in their categories. Kei Harris was the top girl. Tiana Cruz finished second.
The final tournament of the 2012-2013 season will be the Easter event at the Runaway Bay Golf Club.
