ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC) — Jamaica’s Whycliffe Cameron will challenge incumbent Dr Julian Hunte for president of the West Indies Cricket Board during elections at the annual general meeting in Barbados on March 27.

Cameron, the WICB vice-president, has been a long-standing member, and Hunte, who has served three terms as president, are the only two candidates who have met the nomination deadline.

A third candidate, former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd, who was nominated by the Guyana Cricket Board, could not enter the race after at least two regional boards refused to second his nomination.

“The deadline for nominations to be received for the respective posts was Friday, February 22 of last week,” the WICB said in a release issued late Monday.

The release said that voting members of the WICB will also cast ballots to select a vice-president.

The nominees are former West Indies fast bowler Joel Garner of Barbados, and Emmanuel Nathan, the long-standing president of the Dominica Cricket Association.

The voting members of the WICB, who are allowed to cast two votes each, are the cricket associations from Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Leeward Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, and Windward Islands.
