Twelve Tribes celebrates 45
THE Twelve Tribes of Israel Rastafari Organisation will on Monday celebrate its 45th anniversary with a show at its Hope Road headquarters in St Andrew.
Coordinator Sangie Davis, a veteran musician/producer/songwriter, told the Jamaica Observer that the event will be marked by guest appearances by performers who are members of the Twelve Tribes Mansion as well as up-and-coming acts.
“One can expect to see just about anyone from the music fraternity. As you know, Twelve Tribes has been the cradle where a number of prominent reggae artistes discovered their Rastafari consciousness and developed their musical talent,” said Davis.
“With that being the case, there is the likelihood that one can see any number of artistes from Bob Andy to Jah9.”
Nyahbinghi chanter and master drummer Ras Michael and his Sons of Negus ensemble along with guitarist Earl ‘Chinna’ Smith’s Inna Di Yard group are among the performers.
The Twelve Tribes of Israel Organisation was founded in Trench Town in 1968 by Rastafarian elder Vernon Carrington, affectionately called Gad Man.
His organisation was Influential in attracting middle-class members to the Rastafarian faith which had faced mass discrimination in Jamaica.
The artistes who joined the Twelve Tribes reads ike a Who’s Who of Jamaican music. Among them, Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Freddie McGregor, Judy Mowatt, Sister Carol, Brigadier Jerry and Fredlocks.
