Gas Pro Open Junior Tennis Champs begins today
JAMAICA’S top junior players will be competing in the second renewal of the two-day 2013 Gas Pro Open Junior Tennis Championships which serves off today at the Liguanea Club in New Kingston, starting at 9:00 am.
Play will be in the boys 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18, while for the girls, 12, 14 and 18 are the singles events. The finals will be played tomorrow morning starting at 9:00, with the presentations scheduled for later in the day at 3:00 pm.
Over 90 junior players are expected to participate with the winners presented with trophies, along with points being awarded for their 2013 national rankings.
Top seed in the boys 18 singles is Jevaiugh Mullings, followed by Roshane Allen, Jacob Bicknell and Kareem Marshall. The top seeds in the girls 18 singles are Tradianne Barrett and Sydney Williams, who at number one and two.
Russell Thomas and Omari Gillespie are the number one and two seeds, respectively, in the boys’ 16 and under singles.
Tournament director Llockett McGregor said that the tournament motivates young players, who can use tennis as a channel to excel both physically and academically, and should see some exciting matches over the next two days.
