Boyz coaches clash in Senior League match-up
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Montego Bay Boys Club continued their momentum in the St James Football Association Sandals/ATL Senior League on Wednesday beating Rosemount Gardens 3-1 for back-to-back wins which extended their run to three games without a loss.
After losing their opening game to Montego Bay United Under-21, then drawing with Reggae Youths, Boys Club have scored six goals in their last two outings, both wins to jump into joint first place in Zone B with Montego Bay United Under-21. They are both on seven points.
Lovel Jonas’ 44th-minute goal gave Boys Club a lead that lasted to the 85th minute before the teams exploded for three more goals.
Obrian Adams scored in the 85th minute to double Boys Club’s lead before Kalusha Koates put the game out of reach of Rosemount Gardens scoring in the 88th minute.
Jason Maxwell scored a consolation goal for Rosemount in the 90th minute.
Two more games will be played this afternoon at Jarrett Park with North Gully Ambassadors, led by national head coach Theodore Whitmore, facing Violet Kickers, which will be led by national goalkeeper coach Warren Barrett in the 5:00 pm opening game. This encounter will be followed by neighbours Salt Spring United against Melbourne United.
Both Whitmore and Barrett were influential in their team’s games last weekend as Whitmore assisted on both goals in his team’s 2-1 win over Granville City, while Barrett helped his team to hang on for a 1-1 draw against Melbourne United.
A point separates both teams in the standings with North Gully on five points from three games in second place, one more than Violet Kickers who have played two games so far.
Melbourne United are riding a 13-game unbeaten run from last season, but are still seeking their first win this season after drawing their first three games.
Salt Spring dominated for long periods against Fogo United on Friday, but managed just a 1-0 win, their first of the campaign and will be gunning for Melbourne’s scalp today.
