COACH of the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) Floyd Reifer is urging his young charges to bring their “A game” when they challenge title-holders Jamaica in the second round Regional Super50 match at Sabina Park tomorrow.

Reifer, who doubles as a CCC player, said he expects the Kyle Corbin-led team to provide a keen contest when the battle lines are drawn.

“Normally they are good games (against Jamaica)… they are usually very competitive. Jamaica is a good side so we know playing against them we have to bring the A game,” the former West Indies batsman told the Jamaica Observer upon the team’s arrival in Kingston yesterday.

The CCC started this season with a one-wicket loss to the Windward Islands in St Lucia, despite valuable half-centuries from wicketkeeper/batsman Chadwick Walton and all-rounder Raymon Reifer, as well as promising bowling efforts from spinner Akeem Dewar and pacer Kevin McClean.

Jamaica enjoyed a better opening game — easily beating Barbados by 75 runs in Bridgetown — and lead the standings. Nkrumah Bonner led the Jamaicans with a sparkling 110.

Reifer noted the CCC’s gut-wrenching defeat, but said he is looking to improve against the defending champions.

“We didn’t start off too well in St Lucia, that being our first game. We are looking to correct the things that didn’t go so well. Yes, coming up against Jamaica is always tough but all of the guys look forward to playing against them,” said the 40-year-old.

“We have some good players and a bunch of young guys who are eager to play and get in some experience. We have a good chance… it’s a 50-overs game and anybody can win. It’s the team that plays the better cricket on the day that will come out on top so once our thought process is right we can win,” Reifer added.

Combined Campuses have several Jamaicans in their line-up including Walton, Dewar, Shacoya Thomas, and Jason Dawes.
