LADY Abhijita, Olympic Prospect and Select A Book are among a lively bunch of native-bred fillies, who will seek determination in the 19th running of the $1,066,000 Hot Line Stakes, as the three-year-old campaign leading up to the Guineas Classics in April continues at Caymanas Park today.

The Hot Line Stakes highlighter, slated as the eighth event on a nine-race card, is a Restricted Allowance event to non-winners of two, fillies only. The Guineas prep event has attracted nine runners going 1,200 metres with an approximate post time set at 4:50 pm, with first post at 12:30 pm.

The race is a feeling-out process for trainers with five or so runners, who have already shown definite signs and have prospects of competing favourably over Classic distances. Among those who have shown noteworthy signs are Olympic Prospect, Lady Abhijita, Go Go Train, Lady Of Merit, and Selectabook.

However, over today’s trip, the likely top performers could manifest themselves in Olympic Prospect, Lady Abhijita, Lady Of Merit, and Selectabook.

Olympic Prospect created an eye-opening debut by upsetting her more-fancied American-bred stablemate, Little Mama Mia by one-half length over today’s distance late last year. The time of 1:14 flat was quite good for a first effort.

Prepared for racing by trainer Gary Subratie for owner Houston Stables, Olympic Prospect in her next race showed that her first run was no accident when running against out-of-class horses and finished 12 3/4 lengths second to the lithe-of-foot American-bred filly, City Flight, in a respectable time of 1:28.1 going 1,400 metres. The daughter of Vanadium out of Golden Olympio (Olympio) bred by (YS (1955) Ltd) has since been kept on the move in her build up for Classic action and with first time Lasix applied, could register her first win at three, the first time of asking with leading jockey Omar Walker having the call.

Which of the other runners will follow Olympic Prospect back to the line is anybody’s guess, but a preference could go to Lady Abhijita.

This dark, bay filly by Miracle Man out of Lady Bakul is a consistent performer who won her last race over today’s distance in a neat 1:14.2. Trained by Richard Azan for owners Bombay Stud Farm, who is also the breeder, Lady Abhijita has been steadily programmed for more testing efforts and will be in the heat of battle when this is being decided. Champion jockey Dane Nelson, who guided the filly to her maiden win, will again have the call.

Lady Of Merit, one who is yet to be determined whether she is sprinter or stayer, seems ready for a more serious effort, as she was quite active on the track for her sternest test to date. Trainer Wayne DaCosta has added the cheek pieces to the filly’s equipment and called up one the top claiming apprentices, Renardo McNaughton, to guide her and with only 54.0kg to tote, can take the fight to her more-fancied opponents.

So too can Selectabook, who did not impress in the SVL Pick 3 Super Challenge contest.

However, the bay filly by Natural Selection out of Buyabook (Take Me Out) bred at (YS (1955) Ltd) and trained by Anthony Nunes for owners John E Gooden & Elias Haloute & Stephan Narinesingh, in preparation for this and beyond, has been generating her own sparks on the exercise track. And with the distance reduced, could run to take a serious hand in the finish with Shane Ellis remaining in the irons.
