Jamaican surrenders to police in attempted murder probe
CASTRIES, St. Lucia (CMC) – The St Lucia police have confirmed that Miguel Garnett, the Jamaican national wanted on attempted murder charges, turned himself over to the police early Thursday.
Garnett who is also known as Deno B’Jorn escaped from the Vieux Fort Police Station on Friday where he was being held for the attempted murder of a Canadian.
At a news conference Tuesday, Police Commissioner Vernon Francois said Garnett and another man were arrested last Friday for the attempted murder of Canadian Adisania Ojo.
Francois said Ojo sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to the St Jude’s Hospital in a critical condition.
Meanwhile the Norville Blane Clarke, 39, the Police Constable who was arrested under suspicion of aiding and abetting the escape of a prisoner, appeared in court early Thursday morning. He was remanded in custody at the Bordelais Correctional Facility.
Clarke was arrested on Friday following investigations surrounding Garnett’s escape. At the time of his arrest he was attached to the Vieux Fort Police Station.
