More hydro by November
Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) said that it is on schedule for the November 2013 completion of the New Maggotty Hydroelectric Power Plant in St Elizabeth. The development, which is slated to add 6.3 megawatt (MW) of electricity to the national grid, has created 145 new Jamaican jobs to date.
This represents an increase of 115 new jobs, since December 2012. JPS has been making significant strides on the project — the entire wooden structure which carried water to the original Maggotty Hydro Power Plant has been removed and new pipe support structures and Glass Reinforced Polyester (GRP) pipelines are being prepared for installation.
Expenditure on the project has also remained within budget, with US$33 million being earmarked for the completion of the project. The new Maggotty Hydroelectric Power Plant will bring to nine, the number of hydro power stations owned and operated by JPS.
