Red Brigade march past Cavalier
Renae Lloyd’s expertly taken goal pushed Boys’ Town FC into joint second place after their 1-0 win over Cavalier SC in yesterday’s Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) clash at the Collie Smith Drive Complex.
The midfielder was first to react to a failed clearance and swivelled to crack home a close-range volley beyond the despairing dive of visiting Cavalier goalkeeper Gariece McPherson in the 56th minute.
Boys’ Town coach Andrew Price said the victory was a confidence booster for the team after several key players left the club in the January transfer window.
“This was a statement game for us after losing those players in the window. It shows that we have some depth in the squad and the win represents a good start to this phase of the competition. We want to continue to stay close to the leaders so we have to continue winning,” he said.
With the win Boys’ Town moved to 37 points where they provisionally join title-holders Portmore United, who were scheduled to welcome cellar team Savannah SC late yesterday.
Harbour View (45 points), who lead the standings, were also slated to meet fourth place Montego Bay United in a late kick-off.
The David Lalor-conditioned Cavalier remain in sixth place on 34 points.
In the closely contested match yesterday at Collie Smith Drive, the away team proved to be equal to Boys’ Town’s attacking forays as both outfits lacked incisive play under sunny conditions.
Cavalier’s resolve was eventually broken 11 minutes into the second half however when Lloyd produced his moment of magic to easily beat McPherson.
In another early kick-off yesterday, hosts Highgate United were held to a 0-0 draw by Waterhouse at the Drax Hall Sports Complex.
