Petrojam cop 8 awards at KSA Business House Football Awards Ceremony
Defending champions Petrojam won eight awards at the 2012 Kingston and St Andrew Business House Football Association awards presentation ceremony at the Red Stripe Sports Club last Thursday.
Meanwhile, Peter Moses received the Abe Alexander Memorial Award for his outstanding coaching and administrative service to football in Jamaica, which started in 1965. He is the President and coach of the Real Mona football team, who are currently leaders of Zone A in the KSAFA Major League football competition.
In his first season as coach of Real Mona they won the Major League title.
Division One champions Petrojam, who defeated Scotiabank Group 5-3 on penalties in the final, after a 0-0 full and extra time draw. They also won the Scotiabank Group Knock-out title, the Challenge trophy, which is contested between the knockout and Division One and Two champions.
They defeated NCB 7-2 in the final. They also made the association proud by defending the Champion of Champion Trophy, which is contested by the St Ann’s Business House Football Champion, Grand Bahai Principe, and the KSA Business House champion, 4-1 over two legs. Other awards were goalkeeper Damion Campbell, the final MVP for Division One; new coach Ainsworth Ennis and manager Robert Blake were both awarded manager and coach of the year respectively.
Girvon Brown of Wisynco was the Division One leading goal scorer for the second year with eight goals. National Commercial Bank won Division Two title by defeating Grace Kennedy 3-1 in the final. Dellon Dixon of NCB won the MVP final award and his team-mate George Clarke was the leading goal scorer in Division Two with 13 goals.
Petrojam won the Scotiabank Group-sponsored knockout competition by defeating Wisynco Group 2-1 in the final, and Aphas Bernard was the final MVP winner. Scotiabank Group won the One Day Five-A-Side Football Rally, which was sponsored by Seprod Limited, by defeating Carib Cement 2-1 in the final, and also the dress parade/most prepared team Award.
Normal Manley International Airport won the fair play award for being the most disciplined team, while Carlene Edwards, Heather Jackson, Kirk White and Kevan Wisdom were recognised for their five-year service and were presented with trophies.
Everton Barrett was the referee of the year, and former coach of Petrojam, Raymond Quallo, who died last November after battling cancer for a number of years, was presented with a Posthumous Award, which his widow Carol Quallo collected on his behalf.
The association also renamed the challenge trophy the Raymond Quallo Memorial Trophy. Raymond Quallo was the coach of the year from 2009-2011, winning the Division Two title in 2009 and back-to-back Division One titles.
Individual awardees were given gift vouchers from sponsors Western Sports Limited. Guest speaker was Ian McNaughton, General Manager of Barita Investment Limited, who spoke about the value of sports and the restructuring of football in Jamaica in his presentation. Rupert Ashman of Seprod Limited, Carl Chang of Western Sports and Steve Distant of Scotiabank Group represented the sponsors.
