Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller has expressed extreme pride and pleasure with Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz following their historic 0-0 draw against Mexico in their CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying final round game inside the Azteca Stadium on Wednesday night.

It was the opening game of the round and the draw earned the Reggae Boyz a point.

Simpson Miller said while they could have won, as she saw at least one clear opportunity to score, the ability to walk away with a point in one of the most intimidating football stadiums in the world was commendable.

“We did not lose. I’m so happy because it is so difficult to win a match… any game in the Azteca,” she told the Jamaica Observer.

“I’ve been there (Azteca) with the Reggae Boyz before. I know what it is like and for them to have done what they did I am extremely proud… they played their hearts out representing the black, green, and gold,”

said Simpson Miller after addressing yesterday’s opening ceremony of the extraordinary general meeting of the Pan American Sports Organisation (PASO) at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.

The Jamaican Prime Minister said she made a call to the team in Mexico following the match.

“I was able to say congrats (to the team) and they put me on speaker phone and I heard them cheering and they were really in a very happy mood and I’m very happy for that,” she said.

Simpson Miller, who officially declared the PASO meeting open, also joked with the president of the Mexican Olympic Committee who presented her with a medal following her address to the delegates.

She warned that things would go more in favour of the Jamaicans when they play the Mexican team during the return-leg inside the National Stadium.

“I’m sure at ‘The Office’ we will make up for that, but we’re just proud that they did not come away defeated. They came away with one point and that one point is important,” she concluded.
