Muschett on verge of all-island basketball semi-finals
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Western Conference champions Muschett High are on the verge of a place in the semi-finals of the ISSA/KFC All-Island High School boys’ basketball league after easy wins over St Elizabeth Technical and Edwin Allen in the Under-16 and Under-19 games at the Montego Bay Cricket Club on Wednesday.
After scoring a walk-over win in the junior section over STETHS who failed to show up after being beaten heavily by Kingston College a few days earlier, Muschett then went out and spanked Edwin Allen High 81-56.
The competition continues today with six matches, three in each section, including a double-header at the Montego Bay Cricket Club. Herbert Morrison Technical will take on St Jago in the Under-16, while Holland High and Belair High will meet in the Under-19.
On Wednesday, five players scored in double figures for Muschett led by Trevor Mowatt’s 22 points and nine rebounds as they jumped out to a 10-0 lead before Edwin Allen had the chance to settle down.
Edwin Allen made a good recovery to close the gap to four points (20-16) at the end of the first quarter, but the home team stormed back in the second quarter to lead 44-26 at the half-time break and increased the lead to 20 points (63-43) going into the fourth quarter.
Michael Schloss had a good game for Muschett scoring 15 points along with eight rebounds, five steals and five assists; Shaquile Rose scored 13 points, Anthony Vassell had 13 points, 14 rebounds and three blocked shots while Alston Billings scored 10 points.
Taffari Turgott led Edwin Allen’s charge with 20 points and five rebounds, Lyndford Lyndsay scored 12 points, while Sammar Reid had 10 points five rebounds and five steals.
