Jackson runs smart time at Jamalco meet
HAYES, Clarendon — Vere Technical’s Shericka Jackson, running her first 200m for the season, clocked a smart 23.8 seconds to win the Class One girls event at the Jamalco/Puma/JAAA track and field meet here on Saturday.
The meet also honoured nine persons, including three Olympians and six officials.
Other quick times came from Clarendon College’s Shimarya Williams who won the Class Two event in 24.7 seconds; Oracabessa’s Alicia Bailey who won Class Three in 26.1 seconds, while Class Four went to Catherine Barnes in 26.6 seconds.
Kija Christie of GC Foster won the open 100 in 11.8 seconds, while MVP Orane Armstrong and teammate Ramone Barnswell clocked identical 10.6 to share the 100 metres men title, while Floyd Henry (Holmwood) ran 10.6 seconds to take the High School Boys Open event. Omar Samuels (21.6 seconds) took the clubs and institutions men’s 200 metres.
Clarendon College’s Lavar Farquharson did 21.9 for the Class One boys 200 metres, Michael Campbell May Day did 22.6 for Class Two, while Class Three was shared between Phillip Lemons (Jamaica College) and Ricardo Henry (Bellefield), who did 24.2 seconds.
The Vere technical quartet of Kayce-Ann Plummer (Class Three), Sasha-Gay Whyte (Class Two), Britney Dixon (Class Three) and Taska Johnson ran a smart 9:21 minutes to win the 4×800 metres relay, while GC Foster College took the male section in 7:59.8.
Three Olympians — Seymour Newman, Trevor TC Campbell and Mike Fray — were honoured on the day. Also recognised are six officials — Dotty Daley, Georgia Francis, Olive Forrester, Clinton ‘Yellow’ Clarke, Maurice Westney and Lenford Myers.
