Brown’s delightful double spurs U-21s
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Former National Under-17 midfielder Ramone Brown scored twice in the first half to lead Montego Bay United’s Under-21 team to a hard-fought 2-1 win over Montego Bay Boys’ Club at Jarrett Park on Friday in their Sandals/ATL Senior League opener.
The win carried MBU Under-21 to the top of Zone Two, on goals scored, over Reggae Youths, both on three points from one win and a plus one goal difference.
Meanwhile, Granville City held Melbourne United to a surprise 0-0 draw in the second game on Friday to leave four teams on one point in Zone One.
In the first game that kicked off almost an hour after the scheduled 5:00 pm start, MBU Under-21 dominated the early exchanges and Brown, who represented Muschett High in the daCosta Cup last year, gave them a deserved 2-0 lead with two well taken goals late in the first half.
He sent them 1-0 up when he scored from close beating the goalkeeper at his near left hand post then finished off a delightful move a few minutes later when he powered home from just inside the 18-yard box.
Boys’ Club, who were semi-finalists last season and were playing without top midfielder Lovell Jonas, pulled one back early in the second half when Leroy Christie converted a penalty kick early in the half, but the MBU Under-21 defence kept them out for the rest of the game.
