Zimbabwe name squads to tour Caribbean
HARARE, Zimbabwe (CMC) — One of Zimbabwe’s most experience player, Elton Chigumbura, has been left out of squads announced to play Tests and one-day international matches against the West Indies in the Caribbean.
Zimbabwe Cricket has announced that Chigumbura, a former captain, will not be touring the Caribbean due to his poor domestic form.
Chigumbura who has over 100 ODI caps is the only notable absentee in the action starved Zimbabwe side.
Brendan Taylor will skipper the side which plays two Test matches, three one-day internationals (ODI) and two Twenty20 (T20) games against the World T20 champions.
The tour runs from February 20 to March 20 and will feature matches in Grenada, Antigua, Barbados and Dominica.
The month-long tour will be Zimbabwe’s first competitive assignment since the World T20 tournament in Sri Lanka and their first away tour since New Zealand in January.
It will be the first since 2009 that international cricket is returning to the Grenada National Stadium, which will see the tour getting underway with a three-match ODI series.
The three-match ODI series will take place from February 22-26.
Antigua will play host to the two T20 matches on consecutive days, March 2-3.
West indies, the reigning ICC World T20 champions, have only met Zimbabwe once before in T20 matches.
