Startime relaunched
THE popular Startime series had its relaunch Wednesday at the Overtime Club in New Kingston.
Previously known as Heineken Startime, the event ended a 18-year, 145-show run in 2006.
It returns February 16 at the Liguanea Club in New Kingston, with a new sponsor in Wray and Nephew’s White Overproof Rum.
Michael Barnett of MKB Promotions, promoters of Startime, spoke about the challenges that caused the show’s hiatus.
“Startime, despite its success, had experienced some tough times but the love, passion and demand for the event, which was so willingly and openly expressed by the public, had made its return non-debatable,” he said.
Five of the artistes cast for the opening show — Ken Boothe, Big Youth, George Nooks and Johnny Clarke — gave impromptu performances to loud applause.
Derrick Morgan, Marcia Griffiths, Leroy Sibbles and John Holt, to be backed by Lloyd Parkes and We The People Band, are the other acts for Startime.
