Tivoli clip Arnett for Bell KO semi-final spot
IN a mad scramble for the final place in the KSAFA Jackie Bell KO football competition, Tivoli Gardens clipped Arnett Gardens 1-0 in a quarter-final game at the Edward Seaga Sport Complex on Tuesday.
Tivoli Gardens will now move into the semi-final round, where they meet Waterhouse, while Harbour View tackle Cavalier.
Fabian Campbell scored the narrow decider in minute 40 by beating goalkeeper Damion Hyatt with a powerfully headed goal at his near post.
In time added, Arnett Gardens defender Desmond Breakenridge kept the score to single digit after heading clear a dangerous goal-bounded shot also from Campbell.
As is the situation with these two fiercely competitive inner-city neighbours, the game was fast and furious and lacked creative play, as both teams rumbled from end to end on a water-drenched surface that did not encouraged constructive play.
But the more experienced Tivoli Gardens seemed to revel on it as they moved faster to the ball with swift tackles, not allowing their less experienced neighbours to settle into any constructive pattern.
Arnett Gardens, however, did cause Tivoli Gardens some anxious moments, especially in the second session when they laid siege at their hosts’ goal area for long periods, but the Tivoli Gardens defence, marshalled by skipper Kasai Hinds and Christopher Jackson, allowed little of consequence to disturb Edsel Scott between the uprights.
