WICB explains Roach’s absence
CANBERRA, Australia (CMC) — West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) says a “personal matter” forced fast bowler Kemar Roach to miss yesterday’s warm-up match against the Prime Minister’s XI.
Roach was included in the Windies 15-man squad for their five-match ODI series against Australia, but was not among the players for the team’s warm-up fixture at Manuka Oval.
WICB released a brief statement yesterday saying Roach was given leave to attend a personal matter, but did not elaborate.
The 24-year-old was based in Australia since December representing his club Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash league.
Roach joins the team later this week in Perth and is expected to be available for the first One-Day International at the WACA Ground on Friday.
West Indies lost by 23 runs to the Australian Prime Minister’s X1 after their run chase was disrupted when Keiran Powell was forced to retire hurt eight runs shy of a century.
