Wadadah flog Harmony 7-0
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Former champions Wadadah FC signaled they are strong contenders for the title after flogging Harmony FC 7-0 in the second round Jamaica Football Federation Captain’s Bakery and Grill Western Confederation Super League game at Jarrett Park on Sunday.
Andy Johnson continued his hot start for the Daniel Ricketts-coached team, slamming a hat-trick, as Wadadah scored the biggest margin of victory so far this year, to avenge a first-round loss to the Trelawny side.
The seven goals scored by Wadadah almost equaled their season total of seven prior to that game, as they maintained their position at the top of the points table in Zone One.
Tomorrow’s People could, meanwhile, retake the lead in Zone Two today when they take on former champions Granville United at Sam Sharpe Teachers College when the competition continues with two games.
The Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis coached Tomorrow’s People, trails Reno FC by three points, but boasts a superior goal difference.
Tomorrow’s People have not conceded a goal in their last three games and have scored eight in their last two and will hope to beat Granville for a second straight time this season after winning their first-round game 1-0.
Granville will, however, be confident after picking up four of their five points from their last two Super League outings, but hit a hurdle on Sunday when they were beaten on penalty kicks by St James Senior League team Reggae Youths in a Knockout game.
After a good start, Catherine Hall have hit a major snag and have earned just two points from their last three games and are coming off a shock 4-1 loss to Harmony.
Today they will seek to get back to winning ways when they host last-placed Logwood United at the UDC field.
On Sunday, Wadadah exploded for six goals in the second half against a hapless Harmony team that had no response, conceding five times in a 27-minute span.
Johnson, who had scored in the previous game, got goals in the 65th, 73rd and 83rd minutes; Demar Dohman scored a brace in the 47th and 60th minutes, while Levardo Whyte gave the Montego Bay team the lead after 23 minutes, and Oliver Traile got the seventh goal in the 87th minute.
Village United stayed a point behind Wadadah on 13 points after edging Petersfield FC 2-1 in a game that saw three red cards at Petersfield; Elton Reid, in the 12th minute, and Andres Nickles, in the 43rd, gave Village the lead at half time before Hugo Hall pulled one back in the 75th minute.
Petersfield finished the game with nine players after Romario Whyte and Erlan Campbell were sent off for violent conduct and Nickels was also sent off.
Reno took over the lead in Zone Two after outlasting a late charging Holland United, who have gone six games without a win.
Reno went ahead through an own goal in the 10th minute, then Craig Foster doubled the lead in the 17th minute before Dennis O’Conner made it 3-0 in the 43rd minute.
Romaine Lewis scored twice in the second half, in the 60th and 77th minutes, as the Trelawny team roared back into the game, but just came up short of grabbing a point.
Bamboo FC, who finished with 10 players, beat Norwood Strikers for the second time this season, edging them 3-2 at Green Island High.
Nathan Lee scored a double, in the eighth and 60th minutes to hand Bamboo the lead before Phillip McDonald added a third in the 68th minute.
Former Reno FC Premier League striker Roshane Reid, who returned to his original club, gave Norwood Strikers a lifeline by scoring in the 70th and 74th minutes.
For the second straight game Bamboo finished short after Barrington Chambers was sent off for abusive language.
Games today: Catherine Hall FC vs Logwood Utd at 3:00 pm at the UDC playing field; Granville FC vs Tomorrows People SC at 3:00 pm at the Sam Sharpe playing field.
