Camperdown Classic 2013 press launch today
A press conference to launch the ninth staging of the Camperdown Classic track and field meet will be held today at The Spanish Court Hotel starting at 1:00 pm.
Billed as the showcase of sprinters, the meet will be staged at the National Stadium on Saturday, February 9, 2013. Now a highlight on the national sports calendar of activities, the Camperdown Classic is a precursor to the annual Boys’ and Girls’ Championships. Additionally, it is used by high school athletes across the island as a means of achieving qualifying times and distances for Champs.
The 2013 Classic will again be the stage on which some of Jamaica’s track and field luminaries and other members of the Racers Track Club will open their 2013 season. In addition, a team from The Cayman Islands, under the guidance of noted track and field coach Oto Stephens, are expected to match strides with local athletes from more than 100 schools and clubs who have indicated their intention to be represented at the meet.
Members of Racers Track Club, representatives of the Camperdown track and field team, as well as Olympians are expected to participate at the press conference launch today. First vice-president of the Jamaica Administrative Athletics Association (JAAA) and Principal of Kingston College Dave Myrie will deliver the keynote address.
