Ash Wednesday kick-off for regional talent show
LOCAL company Juju Music has teamed with Island Waves Creatives Cultural Community Centre out of The Bahamas, to promote Island Waves Roll-Out, a talent event to be held in Kingston and Nassau.
According to Devon Lindsay of Juju Music, the Jamaican eliminations kick off on Ash Wednesday. It will run for the next 12 Saturdays to select the country’s top three representatives.
“We are inviting entries from dancers, groups, singers, and deejays. The top three will go on to compete against Bahamas’ top three,” Lindsay told the Jamaica Observer.
“The eliminations will take place at various community centres, two of which are Fletcher’s Land and Nannyville.”
For Lindsay, the competition transcends exposing talent. Another objective is building unity among communities.
“We will be pushing entertainment tourism and giving entrepreneurs in the various communities the chance to market their products,” he said.
“Swimwear, armbands, tank tops, you name it. Each community will have a steering committee and we will assist them with the marketing, free of cost.”
Lindsay added that, as part of their promotional communities, documentaries on participating communities will be posted on YouTube.
He says the top three from each country will receive cash prizes, grooming and management deals.
