Saint Cecelia is Horse-of-the-Year 2012
OUTSTANDING sprinter Saint Cecelia has repeated as the unanimous 2012 Horse-of-the-Year after votes were tallied last week.
Mark My Word and Typewriter were voted the first and second runners-up, respectively, to the Horse-of-the-Year.
The Spencer Chung-conditioned chestnut mare, who remained unbeaten in six starts during the 2012 racing season, was also voted Champion Sprinter, Middle Distance performer, and Local Bred.
Mark My Word, the first runner-up to the Horse-of-the-Year, was voted Champion Stayer, while Typewriter was voted Champion Three-Year-Old.
The Champion Two-Year-Old honours went to the Imported filly City Flight, while Mismyrtleboyrichie was voted Champion Imported overall.
The Most Improved Trainer was Fitzroy Glispie, a former top-flight jockey, while Champion Jockey Dane Nelson was also voted Most Improved Rider.
Thirteen members of the 19 committee members submitted votes.
Other champions of 2012 were: owner — Elite Bloodstock Limited; trainer — Wayne DaCosta; jockey — Dane Nelson; apprentice — Shamaree Muir; groom — Garth A Pennant; breeder — Ham Stables Limited; sire — Traditional; broodmare — Docs’ Paladin.
