Sweet music as Reggae Youths dance to win
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Reggae Youths opened their account in the St James Football Association’s Sandals/ATL Senior League with a 1-0 win over two-time finalists Little Miami as the competition kicked off with a double-header at Jarrett Park on Friday.
The result was a continuation of the league forms of both teams from last season as Reggae Youths had beaten Rose Mount in the Division One final, while Little Miami lost to Norwood Strikers in the Senior League final — the second-straight year they were getting the to final and coming up short.
In the second game, North Gully Ambassadors that included national head coach Theodore Whitmore, took an early lead against Fogo United, but had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
In the first game, Ocarey Spence’s well-placed header in the 48th minute was the winner for Reggae Youths who have also qualified for the semi-finals of the Captain’s Bakery and Grill Knockout as they jumped out to an early lead in Zone B.
Franklyn Allen’s penalty conversion in the 14th minute gave North Gully Ambassadors the lead over Fogo in a bruising game, but Alme McFarlane found an equaliser in the 65th minute as the teams shared the points in the Zone A encounter.
