Wadadah, Harmony in Super League grudge match
MONTEGO BAY, St James — A revitalised Wadadah FC will seek to avenge their first-round loss at Harmony FC when they meet in a Jamaica Football Federation’s Captain’s Bakery and Grill Western Confederation Super League at Jarrett Park, starting at 7:00 this evening.
Harmony had beaten Wadadah, 1-0, in their first-round game, triggering a three-game winless run for the former champions who have won their last two with a 6-1 aggregate.
Harmony are also coming off a big win, beating Catherine Hall, 4-1, last Sunday and are expected to put up a good fight with the likes of veteran Jeff Pearce, the competition’s top scorer with four goals, and Kenardo Wilson.
On paper, Wadadah the Zone One leaders have the most potent team with the addition of Loxley Thomas, Mario Swaby, Olivier Trial and Keneil Moodie to the likes of Curtis Palmer, Andre Reid and Lavardo Whyte.
Four other games will be played today, with the fixture between Zone 2 leaders Tomorrow’s People and Granville postponed.
This should give Reno FC, who trail Tomorrow’s People on goal difference, the opportunity to retake the lead when they play away to Holland United at Elliston Wakeland.
Holland have not won since their opening 2-0 win over fellow promoted team Norwood Strikers, losing their last two and Reno, who were held 1-1 by Granville on Tuesday, will be chomping at the bit to get back into winning form after winning their first-round game, 2-1.
Catherine Hall, who were surprised by Harmony, will host Logwood at the UDC field and after winning 3-0 in the first round, will hope home field advantage will be good enough for a second win.
Village United, who were also losers in their last outing, should be good enough to get the better of Petersfield, whom they had beaten, 3-2, in the first round, while Norwood Strikers will seek to avenge a first-round loss when they face Bamboo in Hanover.
