Sandals Whitehouse, Petersfield for KO final
FROME, Westmoreland — The champions of the Westmoreland Roger Clarke Knock-Out competition will be decided at Frome Sports Complex this afternoon.
The launch of the Captain’s Bakery Major League will also take place at the venue and will be followed by the opening match between promoted Delveland United and last season’s beaten finalists Russia FC.
In the KO final that follows, former champions Sandals Whitehouse and Western Confederation Super League team Petersfield United will clash at 6:00 pm.
All 10 Major League teams are expected to turn out for the launch that will include a dress parade.
The competition will be played in two zones and the teams will play home and away for the first two rounds, then a cross-zone round, after which the top four teams will advance to the semi-finals.
In the KO final, Sandals Whitehouse — who eliminated Reno FC in the semi-finals last week — will be going after their second title in three seasons.
Sandals edged Reno, 1-0, in extra time in the semi-finals, while Petersfield beat Russia FC, 3-1. Petersfield will be without Richardo Smith who was red-carded late in the last game.
