LinkUp, Meadows seal Hi-lyte semis berths
LINKUP Allstars and Spanish Town Meadows joined Pembroke Hall in the semi-finals of the Hi-Lyte/INSPORTS South Conference Community Basketball League, while Upper Room Church levelled their series 1-1 against Denham Town after victories in the quarter-finals on Tuesday.
At Edgewater courts, LinkUp -—who came from behind to win the series, 2-1 — defeated Mega Mart Magics, 59-52. Spanish Town also had a 2-1 series win against Arnett Rockers after their 59-48 victory in their third and decisive game.
However, Denham Town will have to take on Upper Room in a third game after going down, 56-50, in a rescheduled match two at Upper Room Church courts, which tied the series at 1-1.
At Edgewater, LinkUp Allstars needed 20 points and seven steals from Nicon Phillips; 17 points from Maurice Hogan, and 15 points from Terrick Gammon to get the better of the Magics.
Damion Richards was MegaMart’s topscorer with 15 points and six rebounds, followed by Clayton Reece and Dwayne Williams with 11 points. Reece also had 20 rebounds.
LinkUp had the better of the first quarter, taking a 13-8 lead, but Mega Mart rallied to cut the deficit to one (22-21) at half-time. MegaMart then turned the tables, winning the third quarter, 13-11, to take a one-point advantage going into the final stanza.
But LinkUp produced their best period of the game and outscored their opponents, 26-18, for a seven-point victory.
In the other game, Damion Johnson posted a game-high 25 points to lead Meadows to victory against the Rockers. Johnson received support from Ramesh Brown with 11 points and Leon Campbell with 10.
Keron Stephenson was Arnett’s topscorer with 12 points and 10 rebounds, with his best support coming from Horatio Small with 10 points.
Spanish Town controlled the game from the start, taking a 14-9 lead after the first interval and leading 29-17 at half-time. They stretched their lead from 12 to 16 points at the end of the third quarter after taking the period, 16-12. Despite losing the final quarter, 19-14, their lead was never under threat.
At Upper Room Church, Gavin Duncan and Shavis Francis led the home team with 13 and 11 points respectively, as they clawed their way to a six-point victory over the Warriors.
Deano Hibbert was Denham Town’s topscorer with a game-high 18 points, followed by Deveraux Preston with 14 points and five steals.
Upper Room took the first two quarter, 17-14 and 13-10, and although Denham Town tried desperately to overturn the deficit in the second half, Upper Room held them 14-14 in the third quarter and 12-12 in the fourth to win by six.
Upper Room Church and Denham Town will meet in the decisive game three today, while game one of both best-of-three semi-finals series are schedule for Saturday at Edgewater.
