Dr Duncan to meet with disgruntled JLP councillor
HOPEWELL, Hanover — People’s National Party (PNP) Member of Parliament for Eastern Hanover Dr D K Duncan is to meet with councillor for the Hopewell Division Devon Brown in an effort to address a raft of issues concerning the division.
“He (Brown) wants to have a face to face meeting and we will accommodate that within the next two weeks,” said Dr Duncan.
Last weekend Brown told the Observer West that despite numerous efforts, he has been unable to contact the member of Parliament to discuss matters relating to the division.
He said sometime ago he was given a cell number by the MP, but he has not been successful in reaching him on it.
Councillor Brown noted that there are plans for several water and road projects within his division which need the assistance of the MP.
“I want to appeal to our Honourable Member of Parliament Dr DK Duncan that I need his assistance in terms of community development in and around the Hopewell area. There are so many things that need to be done which is going to need his input,” the councillor argued.
Brown, who is the lone Jamaica Labour Party councillor in the Hanover Parish Council said since he became a councillor almost one year ago, he can only recall being assisted once through Duncan’s constituency office.
This he noted was during the Jamaica 50 celebrations last year.
But Dr Duncan said he has been working with the councillor through his constituency office.
“Councillor Brown and myself have been working together through my constituency office and whenever he makes a requests we have to appraise them, whether it is coordination of back to school assistance, the Jamaica 50 celebrations, as well as any other thing he has brought to the office,” Dr Duncan explained.
