Bolt set to return to Bislett Games
DOUBLE world record-holder Usain Bolt is scheduled to compete at the ExxonMobil Bislett Games, a part of the IAAF Diamond League series, on Thursday, 13 June and will run the 200m.
According to a release from the IAAF yesterday, Bolt — who retained both men’s 100m and 200m titles, as well as the men’s 4x100m at the London Olympic Games last year — will compete at the event for the third successive season.
“I’m looking forward to come back to Oslo and the ExxonMobil Bislett Games this summer,” Bolt was quoted in the release.
“I have many good memories from this great city and from the Bislett Stadium. I was really happy with the time of 9.79 in the 100 metres last year — it was a stadium record. I will run the 200m this year and look forward to competing in front of passionate and knowledgeable athletics fans.”
Bolt is quoted to have said: “The aim for 2013 is the IAAF World Championships in Moscow in August. My goal is to win three gold medals and repeat my Olympic Games success. My 200m race at the (meet) will be an important stepping stone towards that goal.
“My preparations have been good this fall. I’m injury free, working hard and everything is going according to plan. I hope to come to Bislett prepared and ready to run a great race.”
Bolt ran the 200m at Bislett in 2011 in 19.87 seconds, which is only a few hundredths of a second off the stadium record of 19.82 set back in 1996 by Namibia’s former World 200m champion Frank Fredericks.
The Oslo meeting is the sixth stop on the 14-meet circuit which starts on Doha, Qatar on May 10 and continues on May 18 in Shanghai and New York on May 25.
