Pembroke Hall into Hi-Lyte/Insports semis
PEMBROKE Hall became the first semi-finalists in the Hi-Lyte/Insports Southern Conference Community Basketball League after beating Aqua Youths, 61-48, for a 2-0 best-of-three series victory at Pembroke Hall on Sunday.
However, Arnett Gardens Rockers and LinkUp Allstars drew level in their respective series after victories against Spanish Town Meadows and MegaMart Magics at Edgewater.
Arnett Gardens turned back Spanish Town, 54-43, while LinkUp overcame MegaMart, 67-57.
At Pembroke Hall, Joseph Hibbert scored 16 points, Andrew Bell 15, and Narada Gordon 14 as the home team scored a 13-point win to advance to the final four. Carlong Grey was Meadows’ top player with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Pembroke Hall dominated the first half to lead 38-17 at half-time, but Aqua controlled the third quarter to win the period, 14-4, and trailed 31-42 going into the fourth quarter. But Pembroke halted their slide and took the final stanza, 19-17, for a convincing win.
At Edgewater, Vivian Spence scored a game-high 19 points and Ochorn Kirkland 17 and 14 rebounds as Arnett turned the tables on Meadows, who were led by Damion Johnson with 17 points.
Arnett took the advantage after winning the first quarter, 19-10, and stretched their advantage to 10 points at half-time after taking the second period, 19-18.
A lowscoring third quarter, which Meadows won 6-5, kept Arnett ahead, 43-34, going into the last quarter. The Rockers held their opponents at bay to win the final session, 11-9, to force a third game.
In the other game LinkUp Allstars, through a game-high 28 points from Aquarie Ferguson and 19 from Garfield Campbell, tied their series 1-1 against MegaMart. Damion Richards had 21 points and Kenrick Whyte 14 for the Magics.
The first half was evenly-contested with LinkUp winning the first period, 13-11, and MegaMart the second by the same score. But LinkUp turned up their game to take the third quarter, 20-18, and the fourth, 23-15.
The game between Denham Town and Upper Room Church was not played due to rain and was set for Monday. Denham Town led that series, 1-0.
