Mico ‘B’ notch third straight win in Open League
MICO ‘B’ chalked up their third consecutive win with a 19-11 triumph over the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) as the ‘B’ Group of the JNBS/JNA Sunshine Open League continued at the Leila Robinson Courts last weekend.
The Marescaux Road-based Mico aggregation, trained by Annette Daley, had to work harder than expected to beat the soldiers after leading at half-time.
Mico remained in joint second position with nine points, along with Raven, who have played one game more in Group 6. Leading the group are Friendship with 12 points from four straight wins from as many starts. Mico ‘B’ and Friendship are the only two unbeaten teams in this group. Raven, who have nine points, have lost one game in four outings.
Last Saturday, Friendship played two matches, beating JDF, 17-10, and followed up with a 20-13 win over Duhaney Park Strikers. Mico ‘B’ clipped Raven, 15-114, with the losers returning to win their second game of the afternoon, 18-9, over EXED Saints.
Meanwhile, Alpha, coached by Dwight Sutherland, had two victories to move atop Group 1 with 12 points from four consecutive wins. They defeated Hampshire, 24-9, and the Liguanea United ‘A’, 25-16.
The Donovan Vincent-coached Leiba Gardens are second on 10 points from games, having won three and drawn one. Leiba played to a 13-13 draw with GC Foster Strikers ‘B’ before easily winning their second game, 31-9, over Hannah Town.
Four teams are all tied atop Group 2 with nine points apiece — SPEG ‘A’, Molynes United ‘B’, University of the West Indies (UWI) Pelicans ‘B’ and New Kingston Raiders.
UTech Knights outscored Greenwich Town ‘A’, 20-11, to chalk up their fourth consecutive wins from as many matches to be joint leaders with 12 points with Alexander Strikers, who have played a game more.
Tivoli ‘B’, coached by Sylvester Campbell, lead Group 4 with 15 points from five consecutive wins, while Maxfield Park ‘B’ are in second place with 10 points from five starts, having won three, lost one and drawn one.
SPEG ‘B’ lead Group 5 with 15 points from five matches, with Ebony Strikers ‘A’ second on 12 from five games and Ocho Rios Magics third on 10 from five games.
The Roy Pryce-coached Molynes United ‘A’ lead Group 7 with 12 points from four straight wins, with Job’s Lane United ‘A’ in second with nine points from three starts.
Blades United ‘A’, coached by Rowan Byfield, lead Group 8 with 15 points from five matches, while tied jointly in second are Waulgrovians ‘B’ and Jetsetters ‘B’ with 12 from five starts, comprising four wins and a defeat.
