Pearce hat-trick fires Harmony past Catherine Hall
BOUNTY HALL, Trelawny — A hat-trick of goals from Jeff Pearce led struggling Harmony FC to a big upset 4-1 win, handing Catherine Hall their first loss of the Captain’s Bakery and Grill Western Confederation Super League at Bounty Hall on Sunday.
The win was Harmony’s second of the season and snapped a three-game losing skid, but kept them in fourth place ahead of Petersfield FC and Logwood United, who will play their outstanding first-round game today, after drawing 0-0 on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Wadadah FC blanked Ville United 3-0 to take over the lead in Zone One from the losers, while Tomorrow’s People assumed the lead in Zone Two after beating Bamboo FC 3-0 in a game that saw three red cards in the second half.
In another game today, Reno FC will host former champions Granville United at Frome Sports Complex.
A win would see Reno leapfrog Tomorrow’s People into the lead in Zone Two, as they are on 12 points, while Granville, who won for the first time last week, will hope to move off the bottom of the points table.
Reno had won the first round game 1-0.
At Bounty Hall on Sunday, Harmony scored what could be a pivotal victory with Pearce, the former Village United utility player, getting the season’s first hat trick.
Kenardo Wilson, who also represented Village United, gave the home team the lead after just 11 minutes before Garfield Rosewell levelled for Catherine Hall in the 24th minute.
Pearce gave Harmony the lead in the 31st, before adding two more in the 58th and 74th minutes to shock Catherine Hall, who had conceded just three goals in five previous games.
At the Elliston Wakeland Centre, Wadadah, whose transfer window acquisitions must put them in the conversation for honours at the end of the season, handed Village a big beating. The win saw the St James club sweeping the season series after winning the first-round game 1-0 at Jarrett Park.
Andy Johnson, who has been back and forth between several teams in St James, scored his first of the season in the 19th minute to give Wadadah the lead before Shaunavan Wilson made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute.
Demar Dohman, who played two games for Savannah SC in the Red Stripe Premier League, then secured the points when he scored in the 53rd minute.
At Jarrett Park, the free-scoring Tomorrow’s People repeated their 3-0 first-round victory over Bamboo, who finished the game with nine players after Mario Distin and Sanjay McGregor were sent off for using abusive language.
Tomorrow’s People also lost a player after Andre Moore was sent off after picking up his second yellow card.
Gregory Tape curled in a brilliant free kick in the 28th minute to give Tomorrow’s People the lead at half-time, while Donville Cornwall added a double in the second half with strikes in the 72nd and 75th minutes.
Ten-man Norwood Strikers scored a well-needed win, beating Holland United 1-0 at the UDC field with Jason Sterling scoring the promoted team’s second goal of the campaign in the 11th minute to avenge a first-round 2-0 loss.
They finished the game with 10 players after Dane Gillette was sent off in the second half.
