Kartel’s trial now set for May 27
THE murder trial of Vybz Kartel and five other men was yesterday postponed in the Home Circuit Court due to an insufficient number of jurors in the jury pool from which to select.
The trial is now scheduled to start on May 27.
Kartel, who wore a grey suit and orange shirt with tie, appeared attentive throughout the brief proceedings.
The entertainer, whose real name is Adidjah Palmer, and five co-accused were charged following investigations into the 2011 murder of Clive Williams, otherwise called ‘Lizard’. Williams was allegedly killed over the disappearance of an illegal gun.
It is alleged that Williams was taken to a house in Havendale, St Andrew, in August 2011, where he was beaten to death. His body has not been found.
The other accused are Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, Calvin Hay, Shane Williams, Andre St John, and Kahira Jones.
Yesterday, Hay’s attorney Dianne Jobson told the court that she would like further disclosure of statements from the prosecution. She said she will be sending a letter to the prosecution to that effect.
Jobson said her request was sparked after an in-depth reading of the file in relation to Hay.
In the meantime, Hay had his bail extended while the others were remanded until the trial date.
