Highgate hold Cavalier to goalless draw
Drax Hall — Highgate held Cavalier to a goalless draw at Drax Hall in their Red Stripe Premier League game on Sunday afternoon, but despite the draw Cavalier advanced to the Second End-of-Round Final.
Cavalier moved to an unassailable 21 points in the round, one ahead of Harbour View and two ahead of Arnett Gardens and Montego Bay United. Portmore United, who were scheduled to play Boys’ Town last night, could sneak in ahead of Harbour View, if they won by four clear goals.
Highgate should have taken the lead through Devontae Francis from a Severo Murphy pass, but he fired over the crossbar. At the other end Cavalier’s Fabian Nethersole twice failed to convert in the few chances his team got.
Cavalier’s coach David Laylor was left with mixed feelings after the game. “We squandered too many opportunities and some clear cut chances, especially in the first half… hence the result. We are just going to the End-of-Round Final and play some football and see what happens at the end of the day,” he said.
Michael Smith of Highgate said: “…We can’t get so many chances and don’t put them away. We have some new players and they are adapting to the system that we are playing.”
