Herbert Morrison, Holland set dates with Muschett High
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Defending ISSA/KFC Western Conference Under-16 champions Herbert Morrison and Holland High have set up meetings with the undefeated Muschett High in the best-of-three finals after wins in Thursday’s semi-finals.
Herbert Morrison beat Spot Valley High 55-44 in their Under-16 game, while Holland qualified for their first Under-19 final after upsetting William Knibb Memorial 76-70, both games played at the Montego Bay Cricket Club.
The best-of-three finals are set for Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the finalists have also automatically qualified for the all-island play-offs.
In the third-place play-offs set for Tuesday, Spot Valley High and St James will meet in the Under-16 game at 3:00 pm, followed by outgoing Under-19 champions Cornwall College against William Knibb, at 5:00 pm.
On Thursday, Herbert Morrison outscored Spot Valley 40-28 in the second half to record a come-from-behind win after trailing for the first two quarters.
Spot Valley, who were led by a game-high 16 points and 10 rebounds from Jhamonique Brown, led 9-6 and 16-15 after the first two quarters.
Herbert Morrison hit back in the third quarter to take over the lead 35-27 before moving away in the fourth quarter.
Gregory Wallace led Herbert Morrison with 15 points and 13 rebounds, as well as two blocked shots; Alwayne Beadle scored 13 points and 14 rebounds, while Ralique Grant scored 13 points.
In the Under-19 game, Holland High proved their win over Cornwall College in a rescheduled regular season game was no fluke when they got the better of a William Knibb team that had beaten them by 10 points in the regular season, despite yet another 30-point effort from Shavaughn Reid.
Led by Kenrick Lindo’s 22 points, Holland led 16-13, 39-35 after the first two quarters, and were tied 53-53 going into the fourth quarter before Holland pulled ahead.
Lindo also had nine rebounds and two steals for Holland, while point guard Clifton Shettleworth and Hugh Smith both scored 18 points.
Alpha Wright scored 16 points and had 15 rebounds for William Knibb, while Stephan Greaves scored 12 points.
