Another Pro Patria game halted due to racism
TURIN, Italy (AP) — Another match involving Italian club Pro Patria has been stopped because of racism yesterday.
Pro Patria’s youth team was playing a league game at Casale when the home side called off the game in the 38th minute because of an alleged racist insult towards Casale’s Thiago Ribeiro.
Ribeiro reacted angrily and was sent off after punching a Pro Patria player. Casale’s technical staff then decided to call a halt to the game, which it was losing 2-0.
Pro Patria has denied the accusations.
Lega Pro, which governs the third and fourth divisions, transferred the issue to the Italian football federation.
This month, AC Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng led his teammates off the pitch during a friendly against fourth-tier Pro Patria in protest at racial abuse by opposing fans.
