JEVAUGHN Francis of Calabar blew away the field to smash the record by more than a second in winning the Class One boys’ 400m at the Central Hurdles and Relays at the GC Foster College of Physical Education and Sport yesterday.

Francis posted 47.65 seconds to win, thus obliterating the previous record of 48.88 held by Mervin Green of St Jago. Lennox Williams of Manchester (47.95) was second. Michael O’Hara was also impressive, clocking a new record in the Class Two boys equivalent. O’Hara posted a new record 49.43 seconds and lowered the 50.19 mark held by Williams.

O’Hara also won his second race in as many weeks when he posted 14.31 seconds in the Class Two boys’ 100m hurdles. St Jago’s Romario Campbell was second in 14.64 and Seanie Selvin of Calabar third in 14.67 seconds.

Britaney Duncan of Hydel set a new record in the 400m Class Two in 55.72 seconds, lowering the 56.19 set by Camira Haughton last year. Davia Smith of Edwin Allen (56.86) and Shenice Cohen of Holmwood (57.11) were second and third.

In Class One, Monique Spencer posted a record 55.37 to win in an Edwin Allen 1-2-3 finish. She bettered the previous best of Deandre Whitehorne set in 2011. Camira Haughton clocked 55.64 for second with Georgia Tomlinson third in 56.83.

Samantha James lowered Willomena Williams’ record (56.89) to take the clubs’ 400m in 56.49 ahead of Molly Ann Blake, also of UTech in 57.42, and Alison Daley (58.14).

The Class Three 400m was won by Shannon Kalawan of Edwin Allen in 56.65, with her teammate Moisha Barnes second in 57.33 and Daniel Thompson third in 57.37. Chrisdale McCarthy of St Jago was impressive in the 100m hurdles. McCarthy, who also holds the record (14.18) in the event, clocked 14.21 seconds for victory, putting inches between herself and teammates Shenell Francis (14.48) and Tatiana Wolfe (14.61). Meanwhile, Colista Baker of Holmwood set a new record in the Class Three girls’ long jump with a leap of 5.68m, bettering the mark of 5.66m set by Tamara Moncrieffe of Holmwood last year.

Athacia Parkes of St Jago leapt 5.34 metres for second and Abigail Swaby of Vere leapt 5.27 for third.

Andrew McCabe of the visiting Australian team smashed the 200m men’s clubs and institutions record, clocking 21.29 seconds to win and lowering the previous best of 21.44 seconds set by Jermaine Hamilton of GC Foster, established in 2010. Serian Davis (21.88) was second and Tafari Green of MVP (21.90) third.

St Andrew’s Rushell Burton continued her winning form this season clocking 11.46 seconds to take the Class Three girls’ 100m. Brittani Thompson of Hydel came second in 11.57 and Renee Shaw of Excelsior, 12.28, third.

The Class Three boys’ 100m hurdles was won by Kamali Simpson of Monk Street Boys with Calabar’s Javon Shaw second (14.05) and Alex Robinson third (14.34).

Reigning champion and record holder Peta Gaye Williams secured the Class Two 100m hurdles in 13.87.

In Class One, Akeem McLean of Calabar clocked 15.26 to win ahead of Jovain Atkinson of KC (15.28) and Darran Hunter (15.36). Davina Young of Wolmer’s captured second in 14.67 and Shanice Lewis of Edwin Allen (14.78) third.

Shantea Green of Holmwood ran to the line in 1:01.17 to win the 400m hurdles. Ronda White of GC Foster (1:01.87) was second and Britaney Duncan of Hydel third in the same time.

Dejean Battick of KC posted 58.37 to win the 400m hurdles Under-17 boys. Duran Crooks (58.87) and Amario Ferron (59.26) were second and third.

Edwin Allen’s Rackiel Gayle (11.47) won the Class Four girls’ 70m hurdles, Ebony Forbes of St Andrew (11.54) was second and Shanna Kaye Wright of Holy Childhood (11.72) third.

In the field, St Jago’s Kimone Shaw leapt 4.87m to victory with Edwin Allen’s Annia Ashley (4.84m) second and Antoinette White of Holy Childhood (4.82m) third.
