DEANDRA Dottin says she plans to “live in the moment” as she prepares for a special milestone in her cricket career.

The 21-year-old all-rounder will play her 50th T20 International when she lines up against South Africa at the Beausejour Cricket Ground today.

Dottin, who made her debut against Ireland in Dublin back in 2008, will become the first woman to play 50 T20 Internationals for the West Indies.

“I didn’t realise it would get here so quickly. It sort of crept up on me, but it feels really good to play my 50th match for the West Indies. It was a great honour to play one match for the West Indies, so to reach 50 is quite something to be proud of,” she said yesterday after a full training session with teammates.

“I would like to do something special, but my focus will be on winning the match for the team. I plan to live in the moment and enjoy the game, which is something I always try to do whenever I step onto the cricket field.”

The strongly-built right-hander, who is one of the best outfielders in the women’s game, has made a name for herself in the T20 format. Back in 2010, she set a world record when she became the first woman to make a century in a T20 International, scorching 112 not out against South Africa. She reached triple figures off just 38 balls.

“The century has been the highlight of my career so far. Everyone always reminds me of the record and always ask if I plan to break it,” Dottin said with a wide grin.

“It’s not something I really think about. I just look to get scores for West Indies and look to win the games. I need to be more consistent and work on getting good scores more regularly. I have the power to clear the boundaries, so the team needs me to stay there for as long as possible and look to make maximum use of my strength.”

Both matches in the two-match T20 International Series start at 4:00 pm (3:00 pm Jamaica Time) and will be played alongside the ongoing Caribbean T20 tournament Play-off and Grand Final slated for 8:00 pm (7:00 pm Jamaica Time) on both days.
