THE Digicel/JFF Grassroots programme continues this weekend with the 13th grassroots festival to be held in Manchester at the Church Teachers College, 40 Manchester Road, Mandeville.

The grassroots programme, which was initiated last May, is aimed at introducing the sport to children, age six to 12 years old. It is guided by the philosophy that children learn best through play and the more they play is the more they learn.

Each day’s activities are split in two components; a coach’s educators session drawing on community representatives in which the best way to interact and get the best out of this age group is discussed.

The second component is the festival, which is structured into small-sided games, which facilitate the children having maximum use of the ball through exercises which include heading, kicking, shooting and all the key components of the game.

The coach educators session begins at 10:00 am and the festival with approximately 150 children begins at 1:00 pm.
