J-Hawks, Knights progess to Hi-Lyte semis
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Top-ranked Montego Bay Cricket Club Knights and Sav J-Hawks advanced to this weekend’s semi-finals of the Hi-Lyte/INSPORTS Western Basketball Association’s Men’s Championships after wins in rescheduled games on Wednesday.
Knights thrashed Coral Gardens Raptors, 100-64, while Sav, who won their last three regular season games, beat Rockybar Ballers, 67-56, at the Montego Bay Cricket Club.
The games were scheduled to be played on Sunday, but were rained out.
Tomorrow, Montego bay Boys club Warriors, who shocked William Knibb Thunders last weekend, will face Trelawny Tornadoes in the first semi-finals, also at the Cricket Club starting at 7:00 pm, while on Sunday Knights and Hawks will meet at the same venue and time.
On Wednesday, Knights who lost once all season to Thunder, dominated Raptors from the start and were up 25-10 after the first period and 49-23 at half-time before Raptors made a run in the second half.
Daniel Malcolm scored 23 points to lead Knights; Lemar Mitchell scored 19 points, while Travis Anglin had a double-double 10 points and 16 rebounds. Orville Blake scored a game high 30 points for Raptors.
In the second game Hawks, who got of the season to a slow start before picking up momentum late, took advantage of a slow start by the Trelawny team to book their place in the top four.
Savannah led 13-7, 32-25 and 57-38 at the intervals, with Richard Monroe leading the way by scoring 16 points and getting 10 rebounds. Chescardo Grant scored 11 points while Rushane Drummond and Evern Mills both got 10.
Roneal Isaacs led Rockybar with 17 points, Diego Travers scored 13 and Dwayne Hart scored 11 points.
