Trio breaks records at JAAA/Puma meet
KIRKVINE, Manchester — Three records, all of them coming in the 200m, were set at Saturday’s JAAA/Puma Development meet held at Kirkvine Sports Club in Manchester.
Edwin Allen High’s Saqukine Camron in the Girls’ Class 2, Kingston College’s (KC) Rajae Solomon in the Boys’ Class 3 event, and St Jago’s Sashel Frater in the Girls’ Class 4, established new times at the meet that saw some outstanding performances.
Camron won her event in23.5 seconds to beat the 23.6 set last year by teammate Christania Williams. She topped Clarendon College’s Shinmaura Williams and Holmwood Technical’s Tamar Moncrieff, who both clocked 24.2.
Solomon’s 22.2 seconds beat the 22.21 set last year by another KC athlete, Rojae Fearon, while Wolmer’s Boys’ Kaino Marsh was second in 22.7.
Frater clocked 24.3 to erase the 24,73 set two years ago by St Elizabeth Technical’s Satanya Wright as she beat Holmwood’s Shannette Allison,24.7, who also bettered the old mark.
KC athletes swept all three 200m races as they also won the Class 1 and 2 events. Mario Williams landed the Class 1 race in 21.1, beating Green Island High’s Gremiko Whitelock, 21.6, and Spalding’s Tevin Dixon, also 21.6.
Jonathon Smith was the winner in the Class 2 200 in 22.0 — the same time given to second-placed Cannigga Harriot, with Eltham’s Garfield Nembhard third in 22.2.
Chanice Bonner of Holmwood took the Class 1 Girls race in 23.7 to finish ahead of Edwin Allen’s Monique Spencer, 23.8, and St Jago’s Mellisa Williams, 24.0.
Papine High’s impressive Tiffany James won the Class 2 Girls’ 400m in 57.2 seconds as Edwin Allen’s Camron, who normally runs the 100m and 200m, was second in 57.7.
The Girls Class 1 race was won in 57.4 seconds by Holmwood’s Kedisha Dallas, ahead of Edwin Allen’s Camira Haughton and Holmwood’s Shadae Hyton.
Pan-Am Junior 400m champion, Chris-Ann Gordon of Holmwood, easily won the Girls’ Class 1 800m in 2 minutes 16.6 seconds, well ahead of Edwin Allen runners Marleena Eubanks, 2:18.0, and Atara Segree, 2:2.25.4.
