Share the ‘Moment’
The unmistakable aroma of Blue Mountain coffee permeates the air inside Café Moment. Welcome to the capital city’s latest ‘it’ spot to sip a cup of joe — or hazelnut, mocha, chocolate, sorrel iced tea or ginseng green tea if you like. For the discerning coffeehouse patron, there’s an expansive range of hot and cold blend beverages to sample, and trust us, your tastebuds will thank you.
Open since last mid-December off the busy Hope Road thoroughfare (below the popular Medusa bar), Café Moment is a joint venture for its principals Robert Thompson, Jeffrey Azan, Wayne Edwards, Craig Williams and Rolf Simmonds, all entrepreneurs with varying business interests in coffee.
“We are a bunch of businessmen who were looking for ideas to capitalise on, and each person came to the table with an export,” Thompson shares with Thursday Life over coffee at the new café. “We have a a group called Eagle Masterminds that meets and discusses new ideas and new ways of growing businesses — that’s how Café Moment was conceived.”
The café also presented Thompson with an in-store marketing opportunity for the St Jamaica and Bragadaps export brand of products he had developed that includes BANALMOND breads as well as jerk marinades and Scotch bonnet sauces.
Where menu bites are concerned, Thompson and his business partners are strategically taking a ‘Jamaican-ness’ approach to the food. “A customer coming here first and foremost is going to experience something that taps into the senses, our food is unique and we utilise the St Jamaica brands to create breadfruit pizzas from ackee and red herring. We also have garlic-covered yellow yam wedges and breadfruit wedges soaked in jerk seasoning”, he explains.
Expect too, saltfish spring rolls and whole sardines wrapped in tomato and lettuce, to show up on the menu soon.
“We are also going to be looking at what we can do with our local fish,” he divulges. “What we also want to encourage is other people to come and expose what they have to offer at the moment, so that will be a feature here.”
