JNA targets tall players in recruitment drive
COACHES in the Jamaica Netball Association’s (JNA) programme have been told that in identifying recruits for the teams they must keep an eye out especially for girls taller than six feet.
The instruction has gone out to the coaches from the JNA’s High Performance director Maureen Hall that she is “mainly interested in players over six feet”.
“I can think of no shooter, goal attack or goal shooter, in the top three teams in the world, except for the goal attack on the England team, below five-feet 10-inches, so I am asking that when you recommend players for a position, think about the reality of our competitors,” Hall said in an official communication to the national netball coaches.
The High Performance director said the JNA must take stock of the physical profile of the players being recruited as the intention is to create players who have the physical and mental capacity to perform with the best at the international level.
She reminded the coaches that the JNA did not have a lot of money to spend on the programme, hence they had a responsibility to invest wisely for the future of the Sunshine Girls.”
