TEENage Hitlist: Nuclear – Destiny’s Child
WHAT makes a hit a hit? Is it the lyrics, the artiste, the hype at the time? Is it ‘something special’ about the voice or rhythm?
TEENage Hitlist pinpoints the hits and the misses as soon as we hear both local and international release.
Nuclear
Destiny’s Child
The music blogosphere was afire last week with the release of Nuclear, the first offering by the once omnipresent Destiny’s Child in eight years.
Nuclear is produced by Pharrell Williams of the Neptunes, and features a production reminiscent of 1990’s New Jack Swing R&B.
Unfortunately, Nuclear represents more than it really is. The name Destiny’s Child will have more of an impact than the song itself. Nuclear is not a return befitting of the earned legendary status of the group, but because it’s labelled as a “comeback track” it will gain unworthy praise.
As expected, Nuclear is a typical girl group love song, which is appropriate for their upcoming compilation album entitled Love Songs.
While Pharrell is a musical genius, he is also known to have as many misses as he has had hits, and Nuclear falls within the former.
The song’s heavy drums overpower the light vocals of the trio throughout the track, drowning the lyrics and harmonies being sung.
TEENage Hitlist believes that Nuclear underwhelms and will disappoint fans whenever they begin to listen to the track without a blind bias.
